Dubai with its impudent architecture, enormous skyline, beautiful beaches, dazzling nightlife and largest shopping malls is top of every traveler’s bucket list. In last 18 years I have been to Dubai for numerous times and got a chance to live there for three years as a expatriate which provided me a chance to observe Dubai closely and I perceived it changing dramatically over the time. Dubai is full of happenings expedient tea houses, crowded souks filled with gold, spices and fine Emirate cuisine. If you want to wander alone or visit with family Dubai is a wonderful place and full of attractions. Don’t forget to plan ahead as Dubai is always full of travelers and especially if you are travelling with kids you must need to keep the kids busy and involved in the trip . I just listed out few best places to visit Dubai that you should not miss when you visit this man-made city.
Al Fahidi Historical is one of the oldest district in the city known as “Bastakiya Quarter”. This historical place is a former fishing village and dates back to 1890s. A tour of the area offers a fascinating sight into the Dubai of a bygone era as well as traditional wind towers, courtyards and maze of curving lanes. There is Dubai Museum inside Al Fahidi Fort, the oldest building of Dubai which was built in 1787 its the oldest existing building in the city.
You can visit the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding (SMCCU) where guests can take part in Arabic classes, heritage tours and guided mosque visits to better appreciate the local culture. There are small cafeterias and gift shop for buying souvenirs. It’s a subtle change from the metropolitan setting where you can enjoy the old culture of the Dubai. After exploring, take a distinctive boat ride to the souks on the other side of the Creek.
Dubai Creek is a saltwater creek located in Dubai and as part of the new Dubai canal it extends through to the Persian Gulf. Historically, the creek divided the city into two subdivisions – Deira and Bur Dubai. Deira is oldest part of Dubai and has been the commercial center of Dubai and Bur Dubai is located on the western side of the Dubai Creek and it is famous for many attractions for tourists including renovated historic building, museums and souks.You can enjoy ABRA ride which is perhaps the most low-cost attraction in Dubai. There are many traditionally decorated wooden Dow cruises where you can relax and enjoy illuminated sights of Dubai creek while enjoying a fabulous dinner with great entertainment on board.
Dubai is famous for gold markets all over the world. The Gold Souk is traditional gold market of Dubai with more than 300 retailers in the souk which is in the Deira. This gold souk presents dazzling displays of necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Usually people like to buy some gold from the souk as gold over here is well known in the world for their design and quality. But if you’re not one for gold you can find platinum, diamonds and silver too in the souk. Although Dubai is full of modern malls which have latest designers and brand outlets but spending some time in Souks is very interesting and colorful experience. These souks are full of people and pleasing merchants alluring you to buy with a mix of flattery and funny stories. So it’s a must see once you are in Dubai.
Burj Khalifa world’s tallest tower is hard to miss. Burj Khalifa is 828 meters high and present most spectacular view from the observation decks from 124th and on 148th floor. Tower consists of World’s highest nightclub which is on 144th floor and you can enjoy a meal in clouds world’s highest restaurant (Atmosphere) at 122 floor of this tower. The world’s biggest shopping mall “The Dubai Mall”, famous Dancing Fountains and Burj Khalifa Lake is also part of this tower.
The Walk at JBR
The Walk at Jumeirah Beach Residence is a 1.7 kilometer strip Dubai’s first and only outdoor retail avenue by the sea. You can wander around and enjoy the atmosphere and public beach. There are many bars, restaurants, shops and kiosks offering everything for everyone, ranging from cheap to expensive. There is a larger construction sites, so you must look around carefully for the beach access in some parts. Evening is the best time to visit the walk and you can have something to eat and walk over to the beach and enjoy the amazing view of sunset.
Dubai Marina also known ‘Tallest Block” of the world that contains some of the world’s tallest residential towers. There is a lot to do in the areas of the marina including the Marina Walk a beautiful beachfront walk with international designer outlets and restaurants. The Dubai marina mall is a dazzling 4 level shopping mall and If you are a movie fan then you must visit its boutique cinema. It is a wonderful experience where you will receive a special treatment and you can enjoy twin recliner seats, plenty of gourmet and even you can request pillow and blanket for your comfort. You can also enjoy a houseboat cruise which sails into Palm Jumeirah lagoon to the Burj Al Arab.
Souk Madinat Jumeirah
Souk Madinat Jumeirah is an interesting place to visit and walk around. This is not an authentic souk but its architecture and style is more like actual souks in Dubai. The souk presents the traditional culture of shopping stands, barrows and stalls with a mix of luxury boutique, fashion brands and souvenir gift shops. The souk has fabulous ambiance for a cup of coffee and enjoy a relaxing mood. There is small Canal where you can go on a trip in an Abra boat along the canals of the Madinat Resort. The trip is rather expensive and lasts about 20 mins. It’s a slow ride with incredibly picturesque views and reminded me of “Venice Gondolas”. Evening is the most beautiful time to enjoy the place.
Shop, Shop & Shop
Dubai is known as shoppers Paradise. It has 64 malls big and small malls. These malls are not only give you chance to do shopping for all international luxury brands but also have great entertainment attractions for everyone You can enjoy snow park in ski Dubai at The Mall of Emirates and go to see the underwater world at The Dubai Mall. There are Indoor kids play areas in all malls which keeps kids happy and busy. The biggest mall of the world “The Mall of Dubai” is the most-visited shopping destination in the world The Mall of emirates ,Dubai Marina and IBn-e-Batuta, Burjman and factory outlet mall are also must see.
- Dubai has extreme hot weather between April to October. From November to March weather is pleasant for all outdoor activities but its most expensive time to visit Dubai.
- Summer is most happening months in Dubai with a lot of indoor activities specially for kids.
